Sheafwriter

Write your book.
Then set it for print.

Sheafwriter is a writing app for novelists. Your book lives in plain text files you own, from the first scene to a print-ready PDF and an EPUB.

Scenes and chapters

A binder of chapters, scenes and notes. Cards and outline, status and labels, drag to reorder, split and merge scenes.

A quiet editor

Write in a clean page view or plain Markdown. Focus and typewriter modes, find and replace across the book, spell-checking in many languages.

Characters and places

A story bible with sheets for people and places, aliases, and where each one appears. A dialogue helper keeps track of who speaks.

Goals and sprints

Daily and session word goals, writing sprints, streaks and statistics, so you can see the book grow.

Print and ebook

Real typesetting with hyphenation and widow control, ready for KDP, IngramSpark and other printers. Print cover with spine and barcode. EPUB 3, DOCX and PDF.

Safe by design

Automatic history for every scene, a trash you can restore from, and ZIP backups of the whole project when you close it.

Your files, not ours

A Sheafwriter project is a folder of Markdown files. Sync it with any service you like, open it in any text editor, keep it in version control. Coming from Scrivener? Import your .scriv project, or a Word document.

No account, no subscription, no AI, nothing sent anywhere. The app works offline, always.

In your language

The interface, the typography rules and the spell-checker speak English, Polish, German, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
